Every day, the Jane Goodall Institute Field Assistants (stemming from those who worked directly with Dr. Goodall) go into the forests of Gombe to observe the unique existence of wild chimpanzees. These local Tanzanian scientists are the backbone of discovery in Gombe, maintaining continuous descriptions and data records of chimpanzee behavior, ecology, habits, health, relationships, culture and reproduction. This is difficult work, demanding very early mornings and late nights in dense forest terrain to scope out chimpanzee nests and follow families and individuals. These passionate researchers paint a vivid picture of Gombe – and connect millions of individuals with this invaluable knowledge.
By sponsoring JGI Field Assistants as a part of Gombe Science Heroes, you will receive everything from fascinating stories of individual observations by JGI’s Tanzanian field staff, to updates on cutting edge studies such as DNA paternity, from biographies of the lives of the chimpanzees themselves, to personal stories of people who collect painstakingly collect and analyze the data. This is your chance to be at the forefront of discovery.
